Turtle Productions – Neydown Farm Slurrry Lagoon

Turtle Productions were commissioned by Lorne Stewart on behalf of Cornwall County Council, working with Gwella Contracting. Another of the Cornish farm estate; we were contracted to reline Neydown Farms’ HDPE slurry lagoon which had failed.

HDPE liners can’t be repaired like EPDM, so they ‘bandage’ them with … EPDM accessories! Our initial inspection visit of this lagoon saw many poorly applied Elevate (Firestone) products, trying to patch plastic. This lagoon needs relining, with EPDM which should last up to 60 years.

Gwella facilitated the draining and preparation of this lagoon, allowing us to come in and line using Elevates’ 1.14mm GeoGard epdm lining material. Due to the unique properties of this site, this was the hardest project we’ve undertaken – considering steepness, depth and H&S.

To this end, we had two visits from Lorne Stewart’s SHEQ manager who was so approachable & accommodating of the peculiarities of this project, which encompassed tied ladders and climbing kit to produce “an innovative and interesting safe solution to a very tricky set of site specific problems”.

Where there’s a problem, there’s a way, and this project typifies what can be done when everyone works together to safely get the job done.
