Twycross Zoo Gibbon Forest

Twycross Zoo, a well-known expert in primate care, places significant emphasis on establishing natural habitats for its animals. The most recent addition to these habitats is the innovative gibbon forest. Unlike traditional enclosures, this forest comprises four islands, each surrounded by a 5-meter-wide moat and interconnected streams. This design not only provides the gibbons with a sense of freedom within their island environment but also utilizes the natural barriers effectively for containment.

The installation process, led by the Turtle Productions team, commenced with the placement of 250gsm Geotextile. Sections of this material were seamlessly welded together using a heat gun, forming a solid base for the subsequent installation of Elevate PondGard. A total of 3800m2 of Elevate PondGard, supplied in various roll widths, was used in conjunction with ample QuickSeam Splice Tape and Quickprime Plus to achieve 335 running meters of jointing.

The chosen Pond Liner for this project was the 1.0mm Elevate EPDM PondGard. Notably, Elevate QuickSeam products were employed to expertly join the pond liner sheets and create inlet/outlet terminations, showcasing a meticulous approach to ensuring the durability and effectiveness of the gibbon forest habitat.
